| Known as a wild and fearsome men from the east, the Iceni Warriors were ruthless in battle and would spare no enemy. They were not very tall in build, but stocky and had great strength, mostly had fair or reddish hair wearing it long with braids or tails. Only the Chieftains wore gold around their necks and wrists, and carried decorated shields and armour. The ordinary Iceni Warrior wore bright coloured beads, woven horse hair or braided leather around their necks and wrists. They were all known to paint themselves with Blue Woad as "War Paint" to frighten the enemy especially (the Romans) It was said by Roman Soldiers, they came running from the forest covered in blue like dead men from hell, a most fearful sight. |
