The symbol of the Dragon has been in use in all parts of the world for hundreds of years but where it originates from I don't think anyone really knows. The Great Celtic tribes of early Briton called them "Winged Serpents" and were used by the Druids to frighten the other tribes or none believers (The Gods of Air and Wind. ) The most linked counties were China and Japan, most- every culture has had a Dragon somewhere in its history. East Anglia had its links over two thousand years ago, but much of this history has been lost or destroyed in many Great Wars with the invading armies which tried to claim Briton for itself. Examples of the Dragon have just about survived ,which probably are attributed to the Vikings invasion of our coast and slowly emerged throughout the eastern region.

The Dragon has been linked with Norwich and Norfolk for over 500 years, it was used in 1452 as part of the official Lord Mayors Procession which represented the Dragon killed by Saint George. The procession used the Dragon called (SNAP) up till 1835, these Dragons were usually made by the people of the parish for the Mayor of that year.

There are two or three very good examples hanging in the Norwich Castle Museum, one of which comes from the parish of (Pockthorpe) Norwich. There are also many types of Dragons in churches, guildhalls, and stately homes all over the Norfolk area, you will also find them in stained glass windows, and in roofs of old buildings, and outside the large Norfolk Halls.

In a magical land before time its self, when enchanted animals and the Dragons of the four elements shared their domain, only one was the lord and master of the air ...... "SARANDRAITH"  The legend of Sarandraith , the imperious Air Dragon the most majestic of all mythological creatures. His flight was effortless, graceful and swift. As lord of the skies he watched over boundless domains that stretched to infinity. The perfect poise, dark brooding gaze and the sheer majesty of this glorious mythical beast was triumphant over the land below.
